I hope this trend keeps up. I would love to buy food that is locally grown by smaller companies and not huge corporations. I mean corporations can be good and provide cheaper products, but it's starting to look like that might be undermining the health of the US economy. Plus, with current CEO's making as much as they do I would rather see the wealth get spread around than seeing it get wasted by some Paris Hilton wannabe on some generic reality TV show.

No they could not. You lose significant amounts of power when you transfer electricity over long distances. We're not going to be using power from Alaska anytime soon. Now localized geothermal power plants could (and that really is what the article gets at eventually), but they're generally more expensive than wind (and I believe solar). The fact is there are plenty of technologies that COULD supply 25% of US power needs, but until it's cheaper to build a new green technology plant than burn coal they won't.
